Muscle / soft tissue injury

Muscle injuries affect not only muscles but joints also and can include sprains, strains, dislocations and bruising. These types of injuries are very common and can occur almost anywhere and, if your injury wasn't your fault, you could be entitled to compensation.

Sprains

A sprain is a stretch and/or tear of one or more ligaments (ligaments connect bones), which generally tends to cause some sort of swelling, pain and/or bruising. Whilst they are common in the ankle, they can happen to any joint in the body and, if you suspect having one, you should go to see your doctor who may, depending on the severity of the injury, put it in plaster.

Strains

A strain is caused by twisting or pulling a muscle and/or tendon (tendons connect muscles to bones), which can be caused suddenly by a swift movement or through continuous usage of a particular muscle. Most coomonly, strains occur in the upper leg in hamstrings and quad muscles and, when suffered, will cause pain, muscle spasms and weakness of the muscle.

Dislocations and bruising

A dislocation is when a bone is dislodged from a joint. Traditionally symptoms are sudden pain, loss of movement caused by damage sustained to the nerves and blood vessels in the joint. Dislocations are the most painful of the soft tissue injuries and should not be takne lightly. If you have suffered a dislocation, you should visit your doctor for further advice.
